Two-thirds of UK homes now online

The number of UK households with internet access has risen by 1.2 million in the last year, figures reveal.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), almost 16.5 million homes are now online.

More than two-thirds of adults are thought to use the web every day or almost every day, with men more regular users than women.

Meanwhile, homes in the South East are more likely to have internet access than those in north-east England, the study claims.

Education was also found to affect internet use in the home. 93% of adults under 70 years of age with a university degree or equivalent qualification had internet access.

Just 56% of those with no formal qualifications said they were connected to the web.
